In a nutshell

Coffee wood comes from the stems of coffee plants that have reached the end of their productive cycle. A coffee plant produces for around twenty years, after which plantations are replanted. The resulting wood, particularly dense and fibrous, was traditionally burned: we give it a second life.

Let's clear this up straight away, as it's the first question we get: this wood contains no caffeine. The molecule is concentrated in the beans and leaves of the coffee plant, not in the wood of the stem. There is therefore no risk of stimulation for your dog.

When chewed, coffee wood behaves like olive wood: it doesn't split into sharp shards but breaks down into soft fibres. It is, however, slightly lighter and slightly softer, which makes it our first recommendation for small breeds, older dogs and dogs whose teeth need care.

Every stick is simply stripped of bark, dried and hand-sanded. Its smooth surface and naturally irregular shape give it a pleasant feel in the mouth.

What your dog gets out of it

No caffeine at all

Caffeine sits in the beans and leaves, not in the wood. No stimulant effect, no risk for your dog.

Made for small breeds

Dense enough to last, soft enough not to test a small jaw or an ageing set of teeth.

A surprising lifespan

2 to 4 weeks despite its relative softness: the fibrous structure of coffee wood holds up far better than you'd expect.

Gentle brushing

The fibres clean the surface of the teeth without putting excessive strain on the enamel.

Virtually zero calories

No animal protein, no grain, no sugar: compatible with every diet and every food sensitivity.

A second life

This wood is a by-product of plantation renewal. It would otherwise be burned on site.

How to use it

Choose the size according to build, using the chart below; above 20 kg, switch to antler. The stick must always be wider than the mouth.

It's a good introductory product for a dog that has never chewed wood: its smooth surface and discreet smell aren't off-putting.

  • First sessions: 10 to 15 minutes, supervised
  • After that: 20 to 40 minutes a day, in sessions
  • Inspect the stick after every use

If your dog loses interest, dampen the surface with a little warm water: the wood then releases more aroma.

Replace the stick once it becomes short enough to swallow or when it splits deeply.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Does coffee wood contain caffeine?

No. Caffeine is produced and stored in the beans and leaves of the coffee plant, not in the wood of the stem. Coffee wood chew toys therefore have no stimulant effect on dogs.

How is it different from olive wood?

Both fray without splintering. Coffee wood is slightly softer and lighter: we recommend it for small dogs, seniors and moderate chewers. Olive wood, a little denser, suits moderate chewers better.

Is it suitable for a very small dog?

Yes, that's one of its strengths. Choose size S and check that the stick stays wider than their mouth.

What if the stick splits?

Light surface fraying is normal. If, however, the stick splits deeply along its entire length, remove it and replace it.

Are coffee plants cut down for this product?

No. We use the stems of plants that have reached the end of their productive cycle, at the point when plantations are being renewed anyway. That wood was traditionally burned.
