Yak cheese — churpi in Nepali — is a traditional chew treat from the high Himalayan plateaus, where it has been made for centuries to keep for long months without refrigeration.
The recipe has three ingredients: yak and cow milk, lime juice to curdle it, and a pinch of salt. The curd is pressed, smoked, then slowly dried for several weeks. That long drying removes almost all the water and most of the lactose, and gives the product its characteristic hardness.
The result is a dense, smooth bar, very high in protein, that the dog gradually softens through chewing. Unlike wood chew treats, it is entirely edible and gets eaten completely.
And it has one final surprise: the last stub, now too small to chew treat safely, turns into a puffed, crunchy treat after 30 to 60 seconds in the microwave. Nothing goes to waste.

Drying concentrates the milk proteins: it's our most nutritionally interesting product, to be factored into the daily ration.
The production method removes most of the lactose: most dogs sensitive to milk tolerate it without difficulty.
Firm enough to scrub the teeth, soft enough to spare the enamel of senior dogs and small breeds.
Microwave the last piece and it puffs up like popcorn: a crunchy bonus reward at the end of the run.
Milk, lime juice, salt. No preservatives, no colourings, no gluten, no grain.

Choose the size according to your dog's build: the bar must stay longer than their muzzle.
Give it as it is, at room temperature. If your dog is in a hurry and chew treats too fast, lightly dampen the surface: it will soften gradually rather than give way in one go.
The final step: when only a 3 to 4 cm stub is left, take it away and put it on a plate in the microwave for 30 to 60 seconds at full power. It puffs up and turns crunchy. Let it cool completely before giving it to your dog.
Watch the first use if your dog digests dairy products poorly, even though the lactose content is very low.

In most cases, yes: the traditional drying process removes most of the lactose. However, in case of a confirmed milk protein allergy — which is different from lactose intolerance — it is better to go for our deer antler, olive wood or coffee wood products.
When only a 3 to 4 cm stub is left, put it on a plate and microwave it for 30 to 60 seconds at full power. The remaining moisture in the cheese expands and makes it puff up like popcorn. Let it cool completely before giving it to your dog.
It's our most nutritionally rich product. For an overweight or monitored dog, slightly reduce that day's ration and stick to one session per day.
It is an artisanal product made from a natural raw material: hardness and colour vary slightly from batch to batch depending on the milk and the drying time. That's a sign of traditional production, not a defect.
From 6 months, once the adult teeth are in place. It's actually one of the most suitable products for a first experience, as it is softer than deer antler.

The toughest
The longest-lasting chew toy in the range, cut from an antler collected after it was naturally shed.
The most approachable
The same deer antler, split lengthways to expose the marrow. Irresistible from the very first minute.
The most Mediterranean
From the annual pruning of olive groves. It frays into soft fibres instead of splintering.
